Traditions

Established in 1981 by the Blokdyk Family, Windmill has been a destination for garden enthusiasts for over four decades. Their goal was to create a space where the community could find unique and regionally appropriate plant material that thrived in the Santa Ynez Valley.

In the summer of 2024, after over four decades of operating Windmill Nursery, Bob and his wife Judy decided the time had come to pass the torch. Their goal to keep Windmill running in its current capacity and make sure the community maintained a resource.

FUTURE

Carrying on the traditions set forth by the Blokdyks, Windmill Nursery will continue being a family run enterprise. One that supports the region by providing gardening essentials, educational opportunities, and community outreach. Our aim is to support gardeners of all levels, by providing the guidance and education necessary to create successful gardens. We look forward to serving you!

MEET THE TEAM

NICK THARP - PRESIDENT

Nick has taken a circuitous route to becoming a nursery professional. A trained landscape architect, commercial fisherman, outdoorsman and father. He worked in the landscape architecture industry for 10 years before pursuing a life of commercial fishing. In 2024, he made the decision to leave his life at sea and find an outlet that blended his love of nature, family and landscape. A longtime patron of Windmill, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to provide a service and continue a legacy rooted in the fabric of this community.
